Dietary fat is not the same as body fat, and although it might seem like that candy bar goes straight to your hips, things just don’t work that way. Fat is a vital part of your diet, helping to transport vitamins, maintain the health of skin and hair, and create enzymes and sex hormones in the body. Trans fats and saturated fats work negatively in the body, elevating cholesterol and clogging your arteries. These are found in a lot of fast-food items and "solid" fat products such as margarine and butter. Unsaturated fats, on the other hand, have been shown to reduce harmful cholesterol and work positively in the body to increase energy and give your skin, hair, and eyes that "hi-pro glow." These fats are found in nuts, olive oil, flaxseeds, peanut butter, and lean meats. But remember that a little fat goes a long way—each gram of dietary fat contains 9 calories!
TIP: Coconut oil is a remarkable fat-- a significant source of lauric acid (enhances brain function & immune system).
